THE SIXTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS ORDERS AG YOST TO SEND THE PROTECTING OHIOANS’ CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT TO OHIO BALLOT BOARD

COLUMBUS, OH - On May 29, 2024, the US Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost to stop blocking the Protecting Ohioans’ Constitutional Rights amendment – in violation of The OCEQI’s first amendment rights – and send the proposed amendment to the Ohio Ballot Board.

Timeline:

03/05/2024 – The OCEQI submitted the Protecting Ohioans’ Constitutional Rights amendment to AG Yost for his review of the fairness and truthfulness of the proposed amendment’s summary

03/14/2024 – AG Yosts rejects the summary

03/18/2024 – Mark Brown, legal representation for The OCEQI, sent a letter to Yost regutting the AG’s rejection

03/20/2024 – Mark Brown, on behalf of The OCEQI, sues Yost in the Supreme Court of Ohio and requests an expedited hearing

03/25/2024 – Yost files opposition to expedite the case

03/26/2024 – The Supreme Court of Ohio denies the motion to expedite the case

03/27/2024 – The OCEQI sues Yost in District Court for violating The OCEQI’s committee’s first amendment rights

04/25/2024 – the District Court denies The OCEQI’s request for injunction against Yost’s denial

04/29/2024 – The OCEQI appeals the District Court’s decision to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals

05/29/2024 – The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals grants the injunction against Yost, mandating that he send the Protecting Ohioans’ Constitutional Rights amendment to the Ohio Ballot Board
