Carlos Buford

Dayton activist Carlos Buford serves as the veteran champion of voter engagement, beginning with community comrades supporting Urban Citizens for Social Justice. He has been involved in community activism for nearly nine years, creating noble ways to encourage community involvement on issues that impact them.

Naturally, Mr. Buford’s activism has generated fears for his son’s and daughter’s future regarding injustices that impact Black Americans across this country.

Mr. Buford is no stranger to the social ills of gun violence, where his Brother and his Brother’s son have both died due to gun violence at a young age, a reminder that doing nothing is not an option.

His work includes organizing his first March and Rally against voter suppression in September 2014 and a Voter Verification Day in Dayton featuring Joe Madison – “The Black Eagle” of SiriusXM Radio, in 2016.

Mr. Buford has been and still is equipping residents to be politically engaged while training others on using their iPhones to verify voting statuses.

While leading this charge on the importance of the local vote, he also spearheads other awareness/advocacy initiatives through Black Lives Matter Dayton, such as:

- Firearm training and understanding in partnership with a local trainer(s), promoting gun safety and an outlet to channel behaviors against gun violence.

- The Sealing of Records for Felons in partnership with the Montgomery County Public Defender's Office.

- Assisting residents of alleged police misconduct in filing a complaint(s) against a police officer(s), via a website: www.BlackLivesMatterDayton.com

Mr. Buford loves his Dayton community, where he was born, raised, and resides; he continues to advocate extensively for Westside Dayton residents impacted by systemic racism and discrimination.

With a lifestyle full of challenges, Mr. Buford maintains that “Engaging you to vote is his passion, Empowering you is his goal”
